Bayou Yacht Club is “an inclusive community collective of friends, strangers, artists, makers & small business owners in / around Bayou St. John, New Orleans.” The intention of this nonprofit is “to bring people together in New Orleans and our surrounding areas to share art, music & culture. We aim to raise awareness for social & environmental causes in appreciation of the bayou, preserving this place we call home.”
Bayou Yacht Club hosts regular plant swaps and art markets on or around the Bayou.

Formed in 1987, the New Orleans Rowing Club is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization run solely by volunteers. NORC offers novice, club and masters programs in sweep rowing and sculling. As of 2015, NORC is located at the Frederick J. King Boathouse on Bayou St. John, which is on the grounds of the Vistas Shores Assisted Living Center.
NORC offers a variety of classes and events designed for people of all ages and rowing skill levels, as well as the annual Bayou St. John Regatta.

The Mid-City Neighborhood Organization’s area of emphasis is bounded by City Park Avenue, Pontchartrain Expressway, Broad Street, Orleans Avenue, and North Carrollton Avenue. The organization’s main goal is to improve the quality of life for all residents of the Mid-City neighborhood. They publish a regular email newsletter, advocate at City Hall on issues of importance to residents, and support non-profits working to make Mid-City even better.
The Board of Directors meet on the last Tuesday of every month. General monthly members meetings are held the second Monday of the month. In addition they host monthly MCNO Mixers social events where members enjoy special benefits.
The Faubourg St. John Neighborhood Association (FSJNA) is a 501c3 non-profit, concerned with issues around public safety, landscaping, zoning and events in the Faubourg St. John neighborhood. Currently their major project is revamping and revitalizing Desmare Playground at 3456 Esplanade. Phase One of this project was completed in 2019, and they are currently fundraising for Phase Two. The FSJNA Board meets every month on the first Tuesday of the month at 7 pm at the Deutsches Haus at 1700 Moss. FSJNA Members are invited to attend all meetings. Only the General Membership meeting agenda will include actions that require a vote of all members. General Membership meetings are held quarterly (March, June, September, and December).

The Lafitte Greenway is a 2.6-mile long linear park and multi-use which passes right by the southernmost end of Bayou St. John at Lafitte St. The Greenway features recreational facilities, fitness and cultural programming, open green space, and innovative stormwater management features. Managed by New Orleans Recreation Development Commission (NORD), the Greenway opened in 2015 after years of community driven support to turn a formerly abandoned railroad corridor into a public green space that connects an array of diverse New Orleans communities.
Friends of Lafitte Greenway is committed to fostering “a vibrant and active greenway that encourages economic development, and links adjacent neighborhoods, cultural features, historic sites, retail areas and public spaces.”
In partnership with NORD, Friends of Lafitte Greenway hosts diverse and dynamic community programs and events, such as Greenway Fest, an annual arts & music festival, annual Halloween and Easter events for kids, public movie screenings, free fitness programs, and rotating outdoor public art exhibits.
